Newsreader fired after using F-word 13 times live on Radio 702

Eyewitness News (EWN) fired newsreader Mark Esterhuysen on Tuesday after he swore 13 times and promoted his blog, Twitter and Facebook feeds during a news bulletin. Esterhuysen used the word “f**k” repeatedly in the 1am broadcast. EWN editor Katy Katopodis said he had been summarily dismissed. Although she had been unable to reach Esterhuysen by phone, a letter of dismissal had been delivered to his house.

Mark Esterhuysen
“We can’t tolerate that kind of behaviour. I don’t think it’s appropriate to use our platform, which is credible, to promote your own agenda,” she said. A 41-second clip, purportedly of the broadcast, on the website twitvid.com had garnered 35 000 views by Tuesday afternoon.

In it, a man who identifies himself as Mark Esterhuysen, says: “Fuck racism, f**k the pigs who killed Andries Tatane, f**k the AWB, f**k racism. We are all wild animals here, meant to live free. F**k capitalism, f**k fascism. F**k this fucking wage slavery shit. F**k domestication, f**k Julius Malema, f**k the state. F**k the petrol economic growth on a finite planet.”

Esterhuysen tweeted that he had “no regrets about my bulletin”. On his Twitter feed, he identified himself as an enemy of the state, a defender of anarchy, a proud member of the primate clan, a cunning linguist, and a master debater. “Just like Jerry Maguire, I have lost the ability to bullshit. I’ll accept the consequences of it,” he tweeted on Monday. He said all he wanted in life “is for @GarethCliff to read my blog”. His most recent blog on markesterhuysen.blogspot.com was on the role of sport in modern South Africa, from an anarchist perspective.

AFDA goes musical

First things first... if you do not know what AFDA is - you are hopeless!
If you do not know who Brad Holmes is... I'll be nice & let you in - he's the smart guy who came with the smart idea of coming up with that smart venue called Bassline in Newtown, ooooh yessss! Now that we are on the same page... Let's move on to important information!

AFDA, South Africa’s leading motion picture and performance school is excited to announce the appointment of local music industry legend Brad Holmes as the new driving force behind AFDA’s music performance discipline, part of the BA Live Performance degree.
Brad Holmes
As a self starter with the Bassline live music venue and successful music promotion and staging entrepreneur with the likes Live8 South Africa, 8 years of Africa Day and 3 years of the Arts Alive International festival behind him;  Brad believes that its time to give back, heading up a unique music course that offers training for aspirant musicians to create a sustainable career behind the mike or behind the scenes.
“I have been in the music business for 19 years and have had the honour of working with fantastic talent like  Abdullah Ibrahim, SAMA Award 2011  winner  Professor, Baaba Maal, and  international super star Sean Kingston to name but a few. In this time I have also come into contact with many aspirant musicians battling to forge a music career without the necessary skills to do so. This is where I would like to give back to the industry, running a degree program that marries talent and business and theory and practice – giving new talent the skills to forge a sustainable career in this very tough industry” says Brad
AFDA offers an authentic learning environment for students to meet the vocational challenges of a post- modern society, ensuring that students receive the appropriate skills to  create entertainment products that meet   the demands of local and international audiences. Music students get to collaborate with student filmmakers, TV producers and actors alike, together growing and developing in their fields of specialization to create the various facets of the future entertainment industry of South Africa.

Holmes added by saying:  “It is not just about being talented - there is lots of talent around.   It’s more about developing, managing and sustaining your talent through learning and experience; It’s about who knows you and who you know- this is what I want to teach aspirant talent who genuinely want a career in the music industry.”
(How true... this should have been written in the bible!)

Rolling With Zola 7 on e.tv

Ok, a part of me tells me that e.tv was feeling sorry for Zola & decided to offer him a job, while on the other hand - they needed to revamp their programming... That is also called beating two birds with one stone! Uhmmmm, I'm gonna leave politics to politicians before e.tv calls me for a DC hearing *No Pun Intended, for real* (side eye) ----------> Politics Aside!

You might want to diarise Sunday, 25th September - Noooooo, Jesus is not coming back on that day.... but because we will see Zola rolling back to our screens with his new reality show, Rolling with Zola. The unscripted reality show, which premieres on e.tv chronicles the life of the Bonginkosi "Zola" Dlamini and captures his personal quest to unearth new talent to collaborate on an album...

The 13 part docu-reality series captures Zola’s journey from his tough childhood in Soweto to his multifaceted career as an entertainer as well as his tour throughout South Africa as he goes on a mission to locate 6 talented South African musos. Through it all, Zola will face his past, flaws and future head-on, giving viewers a glimpse into his life.

" We are excited about this show, the series gives e.tv a perfect platform to celebrate ordinary South Africans that contribute to the rich, unique tapestry of arts. Zola has a very open minded, creative approach to South African music; he is a self-made man and is truly passionate. Those traits and the fact that he has a wide-spread appeal make him an obvious choice for a show that aims to give talented ordinary South Africans a platform"
Monde Twala, Group Head of e.tv Channels Division, says

Zola says: "There is tremendous talent in South Africa waiting to be unearthed, people who are naturally passionate about music and do not care about occupying a space in the spotlight. The sad reality is that the more people start being aware about you as an artist, the more they become interest in who you really are, behind that performer’s mask. Most of the young up and coming musos need to prepare for the fact that with living their dreams, certain challenges will come. I have learnt the hard way that the temptation to delude yourself and your fans is great but one needs to remain true to themselves despite the challenges. That determination, coupled with the creative dynamism is what any aspiring artist should never let go of."

The 6 individuals discovered on the show will record songs with Zola. Rolling with Zola premieres on Sunday, 25 September at 06.30PM.

Ooooops… Gareth Cliff does it AGAIN!!!

I was not suprised when I saw this article, I mean... This is Gareth Cliff we talkin' about!
5FM’s DJ Gareth Cliff has been taken to task for allegedly making a sexist comment on air. Newspapers reported on Monday that the DJ was reported to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of SA (BCCSA) by Tex Collins, a DA councillor in Durban. Collins reportedly heard Cliff interview Aids activist Angela Larkin – he had praised the 27-year-old for starting her work when she was 22, adding “girls of 22 usually do nothing but lie on their backs with their legs open”.
I think if Gareth didn't say 'do nothing' - he wouldn't have gotten into so much trouble, coz some do lie on their backs and some work their ASSES up, LIKE ME! :)
Collins was apparently “appalled” by the remark, and called for the BCCSA to take action against him”. In his complaint to the BCCSA, Collins wrote: “I request that action be taken against him for his off-colour remarks” It was added, “He sends out the message that every young girl is nothing but a prostitute and a whore.
Picture: Cara Viereckl

Cliff commented on his website, “I refute the allegation and consider it insulting in turn to be called sexist. The reason I had Angela on my show is because she is precisely the opposite of the kind of girl I am alleged to have offended. It is unfortunate in the extreme that an interview about a terrific cause and effort by a philanthropist should be turned into a controversy about Gareth Cliff. This is a ruinous reflection of the depth to which public discourse has sunk. If my obviously outrageous and laughable comment makes more news than the good work of Angela Larkan, then sexism is the least of our concerns.”
In conclusion... Gareth Cliff & Julius Malema have some thing in common - take a wild guess??? That's your homework!
